The API

Last updated 19 October 2026

Every search type in KeywordsPeopleUse is available over a simple HTTPS API, so you can build the data into your own tools, spreadsheets and automations. The full reference, with every parameter and response field, is at keywordspeopleuse.stoplight.io.

API access is included on the Lite, Standard, Pro and Unlimited plans, and on legacy Free accounts.

Getting your API key

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Under API access, click Show key.
  3. Use the copy icon to copy the key. It starts with sk_.

If a key is ever exposed, click the rotate icon next to it (Rotate API Key) to generate a new one. The old key stops working immediately, so update anything that uses it.

Making a request

Send your key in the x-api-key header. All search endpoints are GET requests with the query in q, the language in hl and the country in gl. Both default to English and the United States.

curl "https://keywordspeopleuse.com/api/alsoask?q=cold%20brew%20coffee&hl=en&gl=gb" \
  -H "x-api-key: sk_your_key_here"
Endpoint What it runs Credits
GET /api/alsoask People Also Ask (standard). Add fresh=true to skip the cache. 1
GET /api/deep_search People Also Ask Deep Search. Add fresh=true to skip the cache. 4
GET /api/suggestions Google Autocomplete 1
GET /api/forums Reddit and Quora 1
GET /api/semantic_keywords Semantic Keywords 1
GET /api/clustering Keyword Generator 1
GET /api/content Content Explorer 1
POST /api/completions AI Assistant, with a JSON body of prompt, command and hl 1

You can add city to target a specific city on the People Also Ask endpoints. See Locations, languages and cities.

What comes back

Responses are JSON. For a People Also Ask request the shape is:

{
  "cached": false,
  "searchesLeft": 148,
  "payAsYouGoCreditsLeft": 0,
  "renewalDate": "2026-11-21",
  "result": {
    "question": "cold brew coffee",
    "children": [
      { "question": "Is cold brew coffee stronger?", "answer": "…", "link": "https://…", "children": [ … ] }
    ],
    "related": [ … ]
  }
}

searchesLeft and payAsYouGoCreditsLeft tell you how many credits remain after the call, so you can stop before you run out. A query with no results returns an empty result and the credit is refunded.

Limits and errors

  • API calls use the same monthly credits as the app, then Pay As You Go credits.
  • At most 5 requests per minute per account. Exceeding it returns HTTP 429 with "API rate limit: max 5 requests per minute".
  • At most 1,000 requests per day per account. Exceeding it returns HTTP 429 with "Daily API limit reached".
  • A wrong or rotated key returns HTTP 403 with "Invalid API Key".
  • An account without an active plan returns HTTP 400 with "Invalid plan params".
  • When credits are exhausted you get HTTP 429 with "{Plan} plan limit reached".

Using the API with AI assistants

If you use Claude or another assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, you can give it direct access to KeywordsPeopleUse. See The MCP server.
